Music lessons in Stittsville – about us

Why our music lessons are different

Jesse, 11

Jesse, 11

We believe music lessons teach much more than how to play or sing. They inspire, spark the imagination and build confidence and discipline. Music lessons and performance teach young people to take risks, conquer fear, and develop their potential.

U-Rock is a family business. We provide pop/rock vocal lessons, guitar lessons, bass lessons, drum lessons, keyboard/piano and ukulele lessons. Plus we coach several youth and teen bands. We work from our home-based studio on the border of Kanata and Stittsville.

Our students receive music lessons tailored to their needs. We set them up to succeed in their chosen instruments and in life. Students in private lessons get U-Rock “Star Ratings” on the 10th week (halfway mark) of every school year session to provide parents with feedback on how their rock stars are doing at their lessons.

We build relationships with students and families beyond their music lessons. We seek out performance opportunities for our rock stars, promoting them and coaching them for auditions, school plays and more.

We’ve groomed over 1,000 young rock stars in Kanata, Stittsville and the surrounding areas since our school first opened in 1997. Our five-star rating from students and families makes us the best choice for music education combined with fun. Many of our students stay with us for five years or more. We frequently teach many multiple sibling families. There are discounts available for families with 3+ children.

Our music education program runs from September through June every year, with a big concert finale at the end of each 5 month session. A lively summer program for all ages follows, featuring flexible private and group lessons.

Competitive rates and schedule availability can be obtained by contacting owner/teacher Cathy Hallessey at 613-457-5064.

At what age can my child start music lessons?

Private lessons begin at age 7. Children, pre-teens and teens are welcome up to 18 years of age. U-Rock’s now-famous The Roxies all-girl singing group and U-Rock’s Teen Band, The Crushers, are terrific programs for building self-esteem and helping children & teens find their voice or special talent. Many teens and preteens find our music lessons and the camaraderie of group work help build lifelong social skills.

We follow our students’ progress into adulthood

Many of our students go on to perform recreationally and professionally as adults. We like to call these former students “U-Rock Royalty”. Here are a few of their stories.

U-Rock Students on CTV Morning Live

We’re crazy proud of our school bands, The Crushers (12-16-year-olds) and the Rock Star Sharks (5-6-year-olds). Their versions of O-Town Funk aired on CTV Morning Live on April 17. The Crushers learned the entire song in a single band practice and performed it live! Here’s a compilation of the clips that appeared on CTV.
